The Elanus leucurus photo set

Lou in Houston made me think about my small set of White-Tailed Kite pictures from June 13, 2006. I thought I would post them.

Kind of like a V-1 when the eggtimer went off and the fuel supply cut out. If you're a vole, as long as hear the wings flapping, you're OK. When it turns into a glider, it's too late.

We had a little ornithopter project going in my research group in college. Pretty fun stuff, once you get past the Big Brother aspect of it.

How these kites can expend that much energy hovering tells you about how successful they can be hunting in the right environment.
